Another government positive response for our farmers and fisherfolks of Davao de Oro as the Department of Agriculture (DA) XI, in the presence of Regional Technical Director Marila Corpuz, together with Governor Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga, handed over agricultural farm inputs to the 11 Local Government Units (LGUs) through their Municipal Agriculturist’s Offices (MAGROs).
On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, a total of 4,665 bags of rice seeds, 714 bags/packs of corn seeds, 2,000 packs of BIO-N, 11 bags of vegetable seeds, and 20,000 pieces of tilapia fingerlings were turned over to the MAGROs, who were tasked with distributing them to the affected farmers and fisherfolks from the flooding caused by the shearline weather system and trough of Low Pressure Area (LPA) in the past weeks.
Present during the turnover ceremony at the PAGRO Office, Capitol Grounds, were Provincial Administrator Lewis Jake Caiman, Provincial Agriculturist Jaime Anter, Board Member Vivencia Secuya, Nabunturan Mayor Myrocel Balili, some Municipal Agriculturists, Irrigators Associations, and other farmer representatives.
Moreover, a total of 700,000 pcs. of tilapia fingerlings, including 100,000 pcs. from Provincial Agriculturist’s Office (PAGRO) and 600,000 pcs. from Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), are said to be dispersed to the flood affected fisherfolks in the coming months.
Under Governor Gonzaga’s leadership with the coordination from the DA XI, the swift assistance to our farmers and fisherfolks is her focus, considering that the sector suffered enormous damage. The province being devastated by the calamities have to sustain food security and sufficiency, more importantly, bring back the farming activities in an economy reliant on agriculture.
