Comval joins National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week
Davao De Oro Province—The provincial government of Davao De Oro through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) joins the national observance to the Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week on July 20, 2018 at the Ground Floor, Capitol Building, Cabidianan, Nabunturan, Davao De Oro Province with the theme: “Kakayahan at Kasanayan tungo sa Kaunlaran”.
The program was attended by the 11 Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers (MSWDOs), 11 Officers of the Davao De Oro Federation of Differently-able Persons (COMVAFEDAP), 11 PWDs Focal person, 11 SPED Teachers and 341 PWDs along with their parents and guardians of the entire province.
Aldren C. Berti – PWD Focal Person of PSWDO said that this is an annual celebration which aims to recognize the vital role of the Persons with Disability (PWD) in the society and their contribution to nation-building.
He added that the provincial government of Comval thru the PWD Welfare Program under the PSWDO allocates funds for the celebration of this annual event.
“The main objective is to increase awareness on PWDs’ rights and privileges, to recognize PWDs contributions to the society and to showcase PWDs talents through “PWD Got Talent,” said Berti.
During the event, a lecture was held on RA 10574 or “An act expanding the benefits and privileges of the PWD” by the guest speaker Mr. Ruel S. Abellar the Senior High School Instructor of Compostela National High School.
During the program, Abellar was also recognized and received a certificate of recognition and appreciation signed by Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy for being awarded as one of the four successful PWD TVET graduates representing Region XI during the celebration of the 40th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week last July 17, 2018 held at Jose F. Diaz Stadium, San Mateo Rizal.
Attending also the program were Assistant Provincial Administrator for Internal Affairs Placido Alcomendras Jr. representing Governor Uy, Marjorie Bulusan- Head of Bahay Pag-asa representing Josephine Frasco of PSWDO, and the personnel from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Meanwhile, Compostela bagged the first place for the “PWD Got Talent” competition and received a cash prize of P5,000 and a certificate.
The celebration is based on the Presidential Proclamation no. 1870 issued by former President Ferdinand E. Marcos declaring the third week of July every year as the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week. (Rey Antibo, ID Comval)
