Comval’s SBB reading program concludes
The Bayanihan Para sa Karunungan (BPSK) of Davao De Oro Province concluded the Summer Big Brother: Reading is Fun! Season 5 on June 7, 2018 at RDR Gymnasium, Circumferential Road, Mankilam, Tagum, City, Davao del Norte.
The Provincial Culmination Day with the theme, “Quality Education, Quality Comvalenyos,” is attended by 900 participants composed of teachers and youth volunteers, district supervisors, school heads, schools division personnel, municipal local government unit representatives, private company partners and other guests.
This is to commend the efforts exerted by the volunteers in sharing their mentoring skills and appreciate their sacrifices before, during and after the 15-day reading camp.
Davao City Vice-Mayor, Dr. Bernard Al-ag graced the event as the keynote speaker; sharing and inspiring the volunteers with his own experience in volunteerism work and other civic involvement.
One of the highlights of the culmination is the awarding of Community Spirit Award, wherein the winners received a small grant project from the provincial government. The winners are as follows; 1st Place – New Panay Elementary School (Maragusan), 2nd Place – Boay Elem. School (Monkayo), 3rd Place – Laak Central Elem School (Laak), 4th Place – Panoraon Elem. School (Maco) and 5th Place – San Isidro Elem. School.
Furthermore, the volunteers have also shown great team work during their afternoon fellowship were every municipality showcased their talents in dancing, speech choir and audio-visual contests.
SBB is a special program under the BPSK which aims to address the reading and comprehension deficiencies of incoming Grade 3 and Grade 4 pupils in participating public schools of the province.
In line with the celebration, the Alsons Development and Investment Corporation and APEX Mining Company, Inc. turned over the tribal musical instruments to Comval Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy and Schools Division Superintendent Reynante Solitario, Ed. D., CESE. The said instruments will be used in the implementation of Indu Sang Isu Project, a tribal education component activity still, under the BPsK program.
The project started last 2016 with three pilot schools; Bukal Elem. School, Panoraon Elem. School and Teresa Elem. School. (Sheldane Mahinay // ID Comval)
