DAVAO DE ORO – Through the years, the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) of Davao de Oro has produced thousands of TESDA course graduates through its programs, and just last August 25, 2020, Provincial Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy took center stage at the TESDA Regional Training Center, Korea-Philippines Vocational Training Center (RTC-KPVTC) in Davao City during TESDA’s 26th Founding Anniversary to claim the Regional Kabalikat Award 2020.

The award was handed directly to Gov. Tyron Uy from TESDA director general Sec. Isidro Lapeña himself, who also led the ceremony along with TESDA-Davao Regional Director, Engr. Lorenzo G. Macapili.

The TESDA Kabalikat Award is given primarily to honor and recognize TESDA’s most outstanding partners in the promotion and enhancement of Technical Education and Skills Development, wherein Davao de Oro has been a solid partner. Since 2016, PLGU-Davao de Oro, by incorporating TESDA courses into a number of its programs like Liwanag ng Pamilya, Oplan Liwanag, and Oplan Pagbabago among others, was able to empower marginalized women, youth, former rebels, former drug dependents, children in conflict with the law (CICL), and many others by helping them unlock and improve their skills and potentials through the courses. PLGU-Davao de Oro was able to hand out TESDA national certificates (NC II) on Driving, Cookery, Nail Care, and the like, to thousands of its program beneficiaries who wish for a better life.

During the ceremony, Engr. Macapili expressed his gratefulness to Gov. Tyron Uy by saying, “you are not just a partner of TESDA, but you are an asset to value most.”

Furthermore, TESDA director general Lapeña also awarded the National Kabalikat Award 2020 to Gov. Tyron Uy through a ZOOM meeting on the 27th of August, 2020.

Other winners of the Kabalikat Award 2020 are the Municipal Governments of Asipulo in Ifugao, Nagtipunan in Quirino, Dinalupihan in Bataan, Gloria in Oriental Mindoro, Loreto in Agusan del Sur, the City Government of Bacoor in Cavite, PLGU Albay, Far East Broadcasting Company, Skills Mastery Institute for Entrepreneurship and Success, Technological Schools Association of the Philippines; and also, a special National Award was given to Sen. Manny Pacquaio.

Gov. Tyron Uy expressed his plans to sustain PLGU-Davao de Oro’s strong partnership with TESDA. During the ceremony he quipped, “Hopefully maipagpatuloy natin ang partnership so that we can touch more lives and change more lives for the better.” (Hopefully we can continue our partnership [with TESDA] so that we can touch more lives and change more lives for the better.)

National certificates greatly help Davao de Oro’s citizens to be able to use their skills to make a living, and the PLGU provides this opportunity especially to those who are marginalized, for those who have lost their way, and for those who are earnestly seeking for the chance to turn their lives around for the greater good—as helping these people is the very heartbeat of the province.

Gov. Tyron Uy recently signed the Deed of Usufruct for his plan to build a TESDA office in the Provincial Capitol in Nabunturan to even more strengthen its partnership with TESDA, and make another step towards the province’s golden future.
