DAVAO DE ORO TURNS OVER 37 MILLION BULK WATER SYSTEM PROJECT TO MLGU MARAGUSAN
MARAGUSAN, DAVAO DE ORO – The Provincial Local Government Unit of Davao de Oro (PLGU-DdO) has just turned over the newly constructed potable bulk water system project to the Municipal Local Government of Maragusan (MLGU-Maragusan) on July 24, 2020 in barangay Mapawa, Maragusan. This thirty-seven million peso project which will provide potable water to roughly five thousand households in barangays Mapawa, Coronobe, Poblacion, and Mauswagon in Maragusan was made possible through partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), who funded the PLGU with 33.1 million pesos, while the PLGU covered 3.4 million for the completion of its construction. During the turn-over ceremony, Maragusan Mayor Maricel Vendiola and Vice Mayor Cesar Colina accepted the project from Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, Vice Governor Maria Carmen Zamora, and DILG-Davao de Oro Provincial Director Noel Duarte, officially giving MLGU-Maragusan the responsibility to manage the bulk water system project.
The clean filtered water that will be pumped by this new system is foreseen to soon eliminate poor health conditions caused by using or drinking unfiltered water such as diarrhea and amoebiasis. This bulk water system is aimed to benefit as much as the approximate number of twenty-five thousand people through the maximized utilization of Maragusan’s great sources of cold spring water—a mega upgrade to the water systems in benefitting barangays. Mentioned by Mr. Oliver Binansilan from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), this project is currently the biggest one of its kind under DILG and OPAPP’s PAMANA program, not just in Davao Region, but in the entire country.
Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy quipped during the ceremony, “This is a very high impact project that is part of our long-term planning, because a lot of people will really benefit from it.”
In addition to the PLGU’s plans to advance development in its municipalities, this project also serves as another step in the PLGU’s move to reach out to classified Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) in the province, and as the model also for other water system projects in the Municipality of Nabunturan.
The turn-over ceremony was also attended by honorable individuals such Joint Forces Commander and Eastern Mindanao Command Jose Faustino Jr., and Board Members Nena Atamosa, Adolfo Ang, Renato Basanes, Jojo Jauod, Raul Timogtimog, Nikki Opisan, and Macario Humol.
At the end of Governor Tyron Uy’s ceremonial message, he gave a peek of the PLGU’s next plans for the Municipality, “Maragusan, also being rich in agriculture, we, with support from our local governments through ELCAC, will focus on developing the livelihood of people’s organizations in the coming years so they may also contribute to the development of our province.”
This project and those that will come after it in the future will serve greatly as a symbol of the government’s efforts and footsteps in reaching out to its GIDAs for further promotion and development. As they always say, there is no one in Davao de Oro who will be left behind.
