Dr. Amoguis: “A world free of TB”
Tagum City — “To have a world free of TB,” this is part of the message given by Dr. Hansel V. Amoguis, the Infectious Diseases Cluster Head Regional National Tuberculosis Control Program Medical Coordinator during the National Tuberculosis Awareness Month celebration on August 24, 2017 at Molave Hotel, Tagum City.
With the theme, “END TB: Sama-samang tuldukan ang TB”, the Provincial Government of Davao De Oro, in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) through the Provincial Health Office organized the event. The theme is an adaptation to the global theme which is “Unite to End TB; Leave No One Behind!”
“With the ‘End TB’ strategy, we are encourage to create bold policies and regulations. To think out of the box and establish supporting system,” Dr. Amoguis said.
The said event aims to promote public awareness of Tuberculosis and the effort made to treat and prevent the disease. It encourages both the government and health organizations to create programs that would increase the awareness of people in the communities.
“Who will end TB? Sino-sino ang magtutuldok sa sakit na TB? This is a question of responsibility and accountability,” she added.
Tuberculosis is an infectious bacteria disease cause by Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. It most commonly affects the lungs. In the Philippines, TB remains to be the 8th leading cause of illness and death in the country according to the 2016 Philippine Health Statistics. (Sheldane Mahinay // ids comval)
