Davao de Oro Governor Dorothy P. Montejo-Gonzaga, together with Representatives Ruwel Peter Gonzaga and Maricar Zamora, presented before Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. the effects of the Shear Line and Trough of Low-Pressure Area (LPA) brought to the province during the situation briefing on Wednesday, February 7.
The convergence at the Presidential Guest House in Davao City gathered together strong leaders across the Davao region as President Marcos Jr. listened to their reports.
Governor Gonzaga, including Rep. Gonzaga and Zamora, thanked President Marcos Jr. for the opportunity to share the affectation of these calamities on the province.
Aware of the damages, President Marcos Jr. immediately provided Php 30 million in financial assistance to the province from the Presidential Social Civic Fund of the Office of the President (OP).
Meanwhile, leaders from Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Davao del Norte, and Davao City, also presented their reports and received financial assistance from OP. Thus, the President’s aid for the Davao Region from the OP accumulated Php 130 million.
On her part, the governor assured the public that the fund assistance would be appropriately used as intended for its use and would be transparent on its spending.
“Public document na kay ipa liquidate na sa Office of the President. Subject gyod pod ni nga pondo sa COA,“ Gov Gonzaga added.
Also present during the briefing were Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte, Cabinet Secretaries, some regional directors of national government agencies, and other local officials of Davao Region.
It can be recalled that the shear line occurred on January 15, 2024, while the trough of the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) occurred on January 29, 2024, resulting in damage to the agriculture and infrastructure sectors and claiming lives due to flooding and landslides in the province, alone.
