SP-DAVAO DE ORO PURSUES ESTABLISHMENT OF INTERVENTION CENTER FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

DAVAO DE ORO – Board Members Atty. Jude Lopoz and Hon. Kristine Mae Caballero-Rañon, Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Women and Family respectively, presented to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan through a Virtual Public Hearing held via Zoom and Facebook Live on Wednesday, September 14, 2021, the Proposed Ordinance 2021-08-36 which pursues the establishment of an intervention center for children with special needs.

This eyed-to-be established center will serve well as one of the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro’s first sustainable interventions made specifically for children with special needs. This center will be serving children and other individuals with mental and physical incapacities characterized by the need for special educational, sensorial, developmental, and neuromuscular care. A Special Needs Intervention Center for Children Council composed of eleven members with known probity, integrity, and passion for helping children shall be elected to govern the center.

“Children are not just our future, they are our present,” quipped Hon. Kris Caballero-Rañon, author of the ordinance, during the hearing.

Passing of this proposed ordinance is now underway, manifesting the provincial government’s Aksyon Agad spirit. This sets another leg to the race to make the province a suitable place for children—especially brightening hopes for those with special needs—as in Davao de Oro, the last becomes prioritized.

Others present during the hearing were Committee Members Hon. Vivencia L. Secuya and Hon. Nena G. Atamosa; Hon. Renato B. Basañes, Chairperson of the Committee on Health and Social Services; Members of the Sangguniang Bayan; and representatives from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices of Davao de Oro.
