STATEMENT OF GOV. TYRON UY ON THE POSSIBLE EXTENSION OF MARTIAL LAW IN MINDANAO
It was a year ago when both houses of Congress and the Supreme Court declared the extension of Martial Law in Mindanao as constitutional. The Martial Law Declaration was motivated by our government’s urgent desire to bring back normalcy in Marawi and prevent similar incidents to happen in other parts of Mindanao. Now, that the extension is nearing its end, we express our support to the call of extending it.
Our province benefited from the Declaration. Since the entire Mindanao Island was placed under Martial Law, we were able to reduce crime rate in the province to a bare minimum, encouraged the surrenders of many former rebels and created a climate conducive for business and investments. In fact, our province was recognized by the Department of Trade and Industry as the second most competitive province in Davao Region. We attribute this success to enhanced security measures implemented due to Martial Law Declaration.
There is a need to sustain our gains. Keeping peace, however, is not an easy business. It requires no less than unity of vision and coherence in every action. In our part, we continue to collaborate with different sectors in the province to finally win enduring peace and sustainable development for all.
May peace finally come to our land!
