“After I surrendered, I was put in the care of the 25th Infantry Battalion and my life was changed. We have a good government. It is very different from the propaganda that we NPA spread before. The NPA always hindered the government’s programs for the people then claim that they are the only good ones. But in reality, they are the reason why the poorest of the poor stay poor and helpless.
That’s why am thankful for the government and all the people who helped me surrender because I learned the truth. All that the NPA is saying are lies.”
These are the sentiments of Sid, one of the beneficiaries of PLGU-Davao de Oro’s Oplan Pagbabago Pogram under the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), as he along with the other former rebels who returned to the folds of law received financial assistance from the government.
On April 28, 2021, 44 former rebels from various municipalities in Davao de Oro became beneficiaries of the financial assistance that was distributed through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). This program became the avenue for former rebels to feel the helping hand and care of the government, despite being former members of the NPA.
No rebel nor drug victim is beyond redemption under the leadership of Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy. While there is life, there is hope.
