Another temporary resettlement area called “G-Works Kampo Dos” located in Brgy. Malamodao, Maco, was officially opened on April 15, 2024, during the opening and turn-over ceremony led by Governor Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga.
A total of 111 all-weatherproof tents were initially set up in the area, benefiting the internally displaced families coming from Brgys. Masara and Mainit who were affected by the Masara landslide in early February of this year.
Aside from the provision of tents, they were also provided with kitchen, bathroom, and toilet areas, as well as non-food items (e.g., hygiene kits, etc), ensuring their health and safety while temporarily housed in the area.
Governor Gonzaga reiterated her full support for the affected people and expressed gratitude once again to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for providing tents, and to Apex Mining Co. Inc. (AMCI) for providing the area where the temporary resettlement is located.
“Buot namong ipaabot sa inyuha nga sukad sa pagkahitabo sa landslide hangtud karun, gane tong isang adlaw nagmeeting mi kaubanan sa mga stakeholders… para diri ma plastar gyud ta eventually … Naningkamot gyud mi, naningkamot ang tanan ninyung mga lideres sa Davao de Oro nga mabati gyud ninyo nga naa tay gobyernong masandigan,” Governor Gonzaga added.
Among the other attendees of the event were Congressman Ruwel Peter Gonzaga, Mayor Arthur Carlos Voltaire Rimando, AMCI Admin Division Manager Engr. Ferdinand Dobli, PDRRM Officer Joseph Randy Loy, PSWD Officer Josephine Frasco, PRC, PEO personnel, local officials of Maco, and others.
It can be recalled that on March 8 this year, the first temporary shelter called “G-Works Kampo Uno” was opened and turned over at the Immaculate Conception Quasi Parish area in Brgy. Elizalde, Maco. It installed 89 tents for the IDPs of Brgy. Masara, who were also directly affected by the tragic event. (Photos by Rizalino Naval Jr. of PAO-IPRD)
