A group of basketball players from 11 municipalities in Davao de Oro gathered to compete in the biggest basketball league in the province – the 1st Gov Dot Inter-Municipality Basketball Tournament.
In her message, Governor Dorothy Montejo Gonzaga expressed gratitude to the municipal mayors for sending their finest basketball players to join the tournament. She also said that the league is not only a venue to hone their skills and talents but also opens windows of opportunities to create friendships among players and develop them academically.
“Maayu kaayu ni sya nga opportunidad para ma discover ug mahatagag chance ang katung mga maayu jud magdula, naa baya tay daghan kaila nga from time-to-time naga scout ug mga maayung players para himoon nilang scholars ug professional basketball players,” Gonzaga added.
She also underscored that the PLGU-Davao de Oro, through the Provincial Physical Fitness and Sports Development Council (PPFSDC) continues its efforts in honing the skills and talents of the youth and promoting a healthy lifestyle through physical fitness and sports development activities.
Provincial Sports Coordinator, Bernard C. Batulan, emphasized the importance of promoting camaraderie and sportsmanship among the various competing municipalities.
The tournament has two categories – under-39 and under-25. Each category has 11 teams to play for the round-robin system starting this month, October, until November for the championship round. Cash prizes await the champions of each group sponsored by Gov Gonzaga and Congressman Ruwel Peter Gonzaga of the 2nd District.
Also joining the ceremony were Board Member Ruwina Gonzaga, Board Member Vivencia Secuya, Board Member Charlemagne Bautista and other officials.
