The newly turned-over bakery equipment worth PHP400K pesos from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Davao de Oro provide livelihood opportunities to the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) despite their temporary detention in the Montevista District Jail.
JCINSP Jul Akbar L Jamiri, District Jail Warden, expressed gratitude for the agency’s untiring efforts and support through the provision of bakery equipment, called “MJD Bakery”, which helps the PDLs boost their morale and demonstrate the skills they have learned during the bread and pastry training given by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
He also added that the bakery is now offering nine kinds of bread: load bread, ensaymada, monay, panzo, heart bread, cheese desal, choco-lanay, four fingers, and three sisters available to all BJMP personnel and even consumers outside of jail.
In addition, BJMP Regional Director JCSUPT Isabelo V Cartin Jr., represented by ARD for Operation and Administration JSSUPT Bernie D Ruiz, led the inauguration and blessing ceremony of an isolation facility that would house PDLs with mild to moderate symptoms of COVID-19.
During the height of pandemic, the agency implemented other preventive measures to communicate with their loved ones without physical contact such as the E-Dalaw Program and the separation of visitors by glass barriers and using radio-type equipment for communication.
The significant activity that happened on July 4, 2023 was attended by DOLE Provincial Head Niel Allan Baban represented by Livelihood Focal Person Eric T. Valiente, Mayor Cyrex N. Basalo represented by Ms. Jill Toyong-Sioao, and BJMP Regional and District Officers. (𝑅. 𝐻𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑧𝑎𝑛𝑜)
